Puerto Chale, a serene fishing community nestled along the Pacific Ocean’s tranquil shores, is the closest point to San Jose del Cabo for gray whale sightings during the winter season. This natural spectacle draws thousands of visitors from around the globe each year.
While tourism is gradually developing in Puerto Chale, it remains a peaceful sanctuary, far removed from the hustle and bustle of busier destinations.

Journey to Puerto Chale: A Coastal Expedition
The adventure begins with a 6 am departure from our office at San Jose del Cabo Marina. We embark on a scenic 4-hour drive north, passing through the charming towns of Todos Santos and La Paz. Around 10:00 am, we reach the quaint fishing village of Puerto Chale.
On-Water Exploration
Your knowledgeable guide and captain will lead you on a private panga boat excursion to seek out the most receptive gray whales. Spend a total of 3 hours on the water, enjoying close encounters with the friendly giants, observing playful dolphins, and spotting various sea bird species.
Relax and Savor
After your exhilarating gray whale watching adventure, take some time to relax and savor a delicious lunch in Puerto Chale. It’s the perfect way to recharge before beginning the journey back to Cabo San Jose del Cabo, where you can reflect on your incredible day.

Once we reach this minimum, we’ll promptly send you a confirmation email. In the event we don’t meet the minimum, we’ll work with you to reschedule or provide a refund for your deposit. When observing whales and dolphins in their natural habitat, it’s vital to respect their environment. We follow strict guidelines to ensure their well-being. While these creatures may exhibit curious behavior, they are wild animals, and we can’t predict their actions. Our goal is to appreciate the beauty they choose to share with us.

Restrictions:
Please note that our boat can be bouncy. This tour may not be suitable for:
• Guests with recent surgeries or injuries, especially to the back or neck
• Pregnant guests
• Guests with limited mobility (boarding assistance should be minimal)
